Personal care aide (PCA) specialists work with mentally or physically challenged people to help them with their day to day tasks and to support them in completing their chores.  Personal care aides are also known as caregivers or personal attendants and their task is similar to that of Home Health Aide (HHA) workers. In order to become a certified or licensed PCA specialist, a person needs to undergo a formal training program and pass a competency examination as well. Besides this, PCAs also need to undergo a state approved program as well which qualifies them to take the examination of certification. In order to pass this test, First Nursing Academy offers a specialized course to PCA aspirants.

The Personal Care Aide course at our academy is designed in such a way that it enables students to learn how to care for the patients at their own homes rather than at a hospital or a healthcare center.  The course is aimed at teaching ways to provide emotional support to the patients so that they can live their life with positivity. PCA specialists must be equipped with the skills to provide complete physical support to those suffering from physical challenges and this is what our course teaches best.  We equip our students with the knowledge and practice of helping patients to meet their day to day requirements.

Besides providing support, the PCA program offered by First Nursing Academy is also specialized to offering basic medical knowledge and skills to the course participants.  We teach them how to administer the patients as per the instructions of the doctor and how to record and analyze the medical information.  Students are given high quality sessions of taking notes about the physical and mental condition of the patient assigned to them.  The course also includes ways to control and prevent diseases, infections and manage these keeping in mind the condition of the patient.  Another important aspect of our PCA program is to teach students about basic safety techniques which are needed in emergency situations.

First Nursing Academy realizes the importance of classroom sessions as well as hand on training and thus makes room for both.  Students are also offered a formal training session so that they can demonstrate competency in skills in advance. This is done under a registered nurse’s supervision.  Our course has been highly successful in preparing students for entry level employment in the healthcare industry. A huge percentage of our students are admitted to top medical centers and the employment rate is very impressive.
